Set in the late 1980s in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Maalik follows Deepak, the son of farmers, whose life takes a dramatic turn after his father is severely injured by goons encroaching on their land. Enraged, Deepak exacts vengeance by killing the attacker, which sets him on a violent path into the criminal underworld. Adopting the name “Maalik,” he builds a powerful gang, navigating alliances with corrupt politicians, rival mafias, and bending—or clashing with—the law. Deepak tries to balance his rising power with personal ties: his wife Shalini urges him to leave crime behind especially as she becomes pregnant, while his mentor, loyal aid, and political figures draw him deeper into betrayals and territorial wars. As enemies close in—from a suspended police officer assigned to bring him down to rival gang lords—Deepak must confront the mounting cost of his ambitions: loss, betrayal, and the ominous question of whether one who has become ‘owner of much’ can ever walk away.
