CCTV (2021) is a South Korean horror-mystery film written, directed, and produced by Kim Hong-ik. The plot centers on a YouTuber who sets out to investigate a notorious massacre that occurred ten years earlier, known as the “CCTV incident,” in which eight people died and one person was never found. The only survivor of that mass tragedy is a woman now confined in a mental asylum, and when the YouTuber visits her in order to record a video recounting the events, he is confronted with disturbing truths, ghostly occurrences, and a horrifying secret tied to the TV-series-crew who were allegedly possessed by the vengeful spirit of a woman who had committed suicide. The film weaves through flashbacks (some shown in black-and-white), asylum scenes, and supernatural horror elements, gradually revealing that things aren’t as they seemed during the original massacre, raising questions about guilt, trauma, and the power of memory.
