In an alternate Levant called Modern Greater Independent Phoenicia, tycoon Anatole “Zsa‑Zsa” Korda (Benicio del Toro) has survived six assassinations. Facing mortality, he names his estranged daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton), a nun, as his heir. To protect his business empire—the eponymous infrastructure scheme involving canals, railways, and dams—he drags Liesl and her quirky tutor Bjorn (Michael Cera) across the globe securing finance and fending off enemies. Liesl resists but finds unexpected resolve as she bonds with her father. Along the way, they encounter a dazzling array of Anderson’s signature oddball characters like Uncle Nubar (Benedict Cumberbatch) and an insect-obsessed entomologist Bjorn.
