Annie (Sandra Bullock) and her new boyfriend, Alex (Jason Patric) — an LAPD SWAT officer — decide to go on a relaxing Caribbean vacation aboard a luxury cruise ship to patch up their relationship.
But their trip turns into a nightmare when John Geiger (Willem Dafoe), a disgruntled computer genius and former employee of the ship’s systems contractor, hijacks the ship’s navigation and autopilot. Seeking revenge after being fired, Geiger plans to steal priceless diamonds from the ship’s vault and crashes the ship into a populated harbor to cover his escape.
