Donald "Don" Wallace (Finn Cole), a working-class teenager, is sent to the elite Slaughterhouse Academy, a prestigious British boarding school. The institution is led by the enigmatic Headmaster known as "The Bat" (Michael Sheen) and the lovelorn Housemaster Mr. Meredith Houseman (Simon Pegg), who is still pining for a former teacher.
The school's tranquil environment is disrupted when a sinkhole appears near a fracking site on the school's grounds. This geological anomaly releases aggressive subterranean creatures that begin to attack students and faculty. As chaos ensues, Don and his new friends, including the resourceful Clemsie Lawrence (Hermione Corfield), must band together to survive and confront the monstrous threat.
