Choi Hyun-soo (Ryu Seung-ryong), a security guard burdened by financial stress and alcoholism, accidentally kills a young girl, Oh Se-ryeong, while driving drunk on a foggy night. In a panic, he disposes of her body in a nearby lake and attempts to move on with his life. However, the weight of his guilt begins to consume him.
The girl's father, Oh Young-je (Jang Dong-gun), a man with a history of abuse, becomes obsessed with uncovering the identity of his daughter's killer. Upon discovering Hyun-soo's involvement, Young-je meticulously plans a prolonged revenge, targeting Hyun-soo's son, Seo-won (Go Kyung-pyo). Over the course of seven years, Young-je's vendetta unfolds, affecting both families profoundly.
