The story follows Lainy Newton (Amy Schumer), a 40-something schoolteacher who has always dreamed of becoming a mother. After her long-term boyfriend, Dave (Damon Wayans Jr.), suggests a threesome instead of proposing, and her best friend Kate (Jillian Bell) announces her pregnancy, Lainy feels left behind. In a moment of impulsiveness, she dons a fake pregnancy belly to experience the attention and respect that pregnant women receive.
Lainy's deception leads her to prenatal yoga classes, where she befriends Megan (Brianne Howey), an expectant mother. She also meets Megan's brother, Josh (Will Forte), and a romantic relationship blossoms under false pretenses. As Lainy becomes more entangled in her web of lies, maintaining the facade becomes increasingly challenging, leading to humorous and heartfelt situations.
