Siya 2023

Siya is a raw and emotional film that addresses the harrowing realities of sexual assault, the deep-rooted patriarchy in rural India, and the fight for justice. The story follows the journey of Siya (played by Vidyut Jammwal), a young woman from a small village, who becomes a victim of gang rape. The film showcases her struggle to survive, reclaim her life, and fight against an unjust system that seeks to silence her. With an unflinching portrayal of trauma, resilience, and the pursuit of justice, Siya is a powerful commentary on the systemic failure to protect women and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

The film opens in a quaint rural village in India where Siya (played by Vidyut Jammwal), a vibrant, young woman, lives with her family. Siya is a hardworking and independent woman who dreams of a better future. She works in the fields with her father, Raghunath (played by Manoj Bajpayee), and helps her mother, Kunti (played by Seema Biswas), with household chores. Siya's life is simple but filled with hope, as she plans to marry her childhood love, Chandru (played by Anup Soni), and start a family of her own.

However, everything changes when Siya is brutally attacked by a group of men from her village, including influential figures with power and influence. The attack is a horrific gang rape, and the trauma leaves Siya emotionally and physically shattered. The village, steeped in patriarchy and silence, turns a blind eye to the crime, and those who are supposed to protect her seem more interested in protecting the perpetrators due to their social standing.
