"Sharmajee Ki Beti" is a light-hearted comedy-drama that focuses on the pressures faced by women in modern-day India, particularly in the context of family expectations, career choices, and societal standards. The film explores the life of Anjali Sharma, a young woman who is constantly compared to her "perfect" counterpart, her childhood friend, Radhika, who is often referred to as "Sharmajee Ki Beti" — the ideal daughter in the family. The story revolves around Anjali’s journey of self-discovery and empowerment as she tries to break free from the shackles of comparison and embrace her own identity.
The film begins by introducing Anjali Sharma (played by Kriti Sanon), a bright and ambitious young woman living in a middle-class household. Anjali is a talented graphic designer, but her dreams often take a backseat due to her family’s expectations and societal pressures. She is constantly compared to her childhood friend, Radhika (played by Radhika Madan), who is everything that Anjali is not—Radhika is a well-behaved, perfect student with a high-paying job, an ideal marriage, and the image of perfection that everyone admires.
Anjali’s family, particularly her parents Mr. and Mrs. Sharma (played by Anupam Kher and Ratna Pathak Shah), have always held Radhika as the model of a “perfect daughter.” They celebrate Radhika’s achievements at every family gathering, comparing her to Anjali in ways that make Anjali feel inadequate and invisible. No matter how much Anjali tries to succeed in her own way, her family never seems satisfied with her progress, constantly asking, "Why can't you be more like Sharmajee Ki Beti?"
