"Sex Education" is a British coming-of-age comedy-drama series that follows Otis Milburn, a socially awkward teenager whose life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes an unofficial sex therapist at his high school. The show explores topics related to sexuality, relationships, and identity, combining humor and heartfelt moments to address the challenges faced by young people as they navigate their personal and sexual growth.
The story begins with Otis Milburn (played by Asa Butterfield), a shy and self-conscious 16-year-old who lives with his single mother, Jean (played by Gillian Anderson), a well-known sex therapist. Otis has grown up in a household that openly discusses sex and relationships, which has made him uncomfortable with the subject. Though he’s knowledgeable about sexual issues due to his mother’s work, he remains inexperienced and embarrassed about discussing his own sexuality.
Otis' life takes a turn when he befriends Maeve Wiley (played by Emma Mackey), a smart, rebellious girl who is socially ostracized at school. Maeve sees an opportunity to use Otis’ expertise for profit and convinces him to start a secretive sex therapy clinic at school. With Maeve handling the business side and Otis providing the advice, they begin to help their fellow students with their various sexual problems, ranging from issues with relationships to questions about sexual health.
