Salaam Venky 2023

"Salama Venky" is an inspiring and emotionally charged drama based on a true story that explores themes of life, death, courage, and the power of love. The film follows the journey of Venky, a young man suffering from a terminal illness, and his mother, Sujoya, who fights tirelessly to fulfill her son's dreams and wishes in the face of unimaginable odds. The film begins by introducing Venky (played by Vishal Jethwa), a 21-year-old with a vibrant and joyful personality, despite suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a debilitating condition that causes progressive muscle weakness. Venky has spent much of his life in and out of hospitals, but he has always remained determined to live his life with optimism and hope. His greatest passion is music, and he dreams of becoming a famous singer.

Venky’s mother, Sujoya (played by Konkona Sen Sharma), is a pillar of strength who has dedicated her life to caring for her son. As his health declines, Sujoya refuses to let her son give up on his dreams. Despite knowing that his time is limited, she becomes a relentless advocate for his wishes, pushing him to pursue his passions and fulfill his desires, even if they are fleeting.

As Venky’s condition worsens, the family faces emotional and financial struggles. Despite all odds, Venky insists on recording a song, hoping it will leave behind a legacy of his passion. Sujoya, desperate to make this dream come true, arranges for him to record in a professional studio, even though she has to face opposition from doctors, who warn her that pushing Venky too hard could accelerate his deterioration.

Alongside this journey, the film also explores the relationship between Venky and his childhood friends, his romantic interest Sanya, and the impact of his illness on their lives. Each person in his life is touched by Venky’s resilience, and they all come together to support him, sharing moments of joy and sorrow along the way.
