The Goldsmith 2022

The Goldsmith (2022), originally titled L'orafo, is an Italian horror-thriller directed by Vincenzo Ricchiuto. The film subverts the traditional home invasion narrative, transforming a seemingly straightforward robbery into a chilling tale of revenge and psychological torment.

The story begins with a flashback: three children—Stefano, Arianna, and Roberto—are caught stealing a gold cross from an elderly man. In the ensuing confrontation, Arianna stabs the man, leaving him for dead. Years later, the trio, now adults and small-time criminals, target the secluded countryside home of Antonio, an elderly goldsmith, and his wife, Giovanna, believing it to house valuable treasures.

Disguised with unsettling baby masks, they break into the house, coercing Antonio into revealing his hidden workshop. Once inside, the door locks behind them, trapping them in a room filled with jewelry and tools. Antonio, far from being a helpless victim, reveals he knows intimate details about each intruder, including their past crimes and personal secrets. As tensions rise, the trio's unity fractures, leading to betrayal and violence. Antonio and Giovanna's true intentions unfold, revealing a meticulously planned retribution that blurs the lines between justice and monstrosity.
