"Lucky Baskhar" is a lighthearted yet poignant comedy-drama that explores the power of second chances, the unpredictability of life, and the importance of relationships. Set in a lively, middle-class neighborhood in Mumbai, the film follows the life of Baskhar, an unlucky and down-on-his-luck man who discovers that luck may not always come when you expect it, but often when you least deserve it.
The story introduces Baskhar, an ordinary man in his 30s, who has faced a series of unfortunate events. From losing his job at a tech company to being unable to find another decent-paying one, Baskhar struggles with the weight of unfulfilled dreams and societal pressures. He lives with his eccentric but loving mother, who constantly encourages him to "find his luck" but provides no practical advice on how to do so.
Despite his setbacks, Baskhar tries to stay optimistic and remains convinced that luck is just around the corner. However, his belief in luck takes a strange turn when he discovers a mysterious coin hidden in the attic of his family home. The coin, an old and weathered relic, is said to have magical properties—bestowing good fortune on whoever possesses it. Skeptical yet desperate, Baskhar starts carrying the coin everywhere, hoping that it will change his life for the better.
To his surprise, strange things begin happening. Baskhar, who has never been able to hold down a job for long, lands a high-paying job as a marketing executive at a prestigious company. His long-time crush, Meera, suddenly starts noticing him, and he finds himself invited to parties and social gatherings that were once beyond his reach. For the first time in years, Baskhar feels like luck is truly on his side.
However, as Baskhar's life improves, he begins to lose touch with his humble roots. He becomes arrogant and starts neglecting the people who were always there for him—his mother, his old friends, and even Meera, who starts to see a side of him she doesn’t like. Baskhar, consumed by his newfound success, starts to believe that his luck is a result of his own brilliance, rather than a mere coin. He becomes disconnected from the very things that made him happy in the first place.
The turning point comes when Baskhar, in his quest to gain more wealth and status, makes a reckless decision that leads to him losing his job and reputation. It’s then that he realizes the true nature of luck—it’s not about material success or external validation, but about the people around you and the love and kindness you give and receive.
