The film opens with Anil Kumar, a simple man in his late 30s, who works as a clerk in a government office in a small town. Anil has big dreams of climbing the social ladder and escaping his monotonous life, but his reality is a constant struggle against a labyrinth of red tape, a system that rewards connections rather than competence, and the ongoing challenges of his personal life.
Anil's days are filled with frustration as he watches his colleagues—many of whom lack skill or qualification—getting promotions and accolades simply because of their connections or by playing the political game. He, on the other hand, follows the rules, works hard, and remains invisible in the eyes of his superiors. The constant pressure from his family, especially his father, to secure a better future weighs heavily on him.
Amidst all of this, Anil discovers a small opportunity that promises to change his life: an elite government scheme that offers high-paying jobs, foreign travel, and other perks to those who can get involved in "high-profile" work. The catch, however, is that the scheme is not open to everyone. It requires a series of favors, bribes, and navigating through bureaucratic hurdles. The scheme is illegal but is also widely accepted and practiced by those in power.
In an unexpected twist, Anil's old friend, Raghav, who works as a middleman between politicians and businessmen, offers to help Anil gain access to the scheme. Raghav tells him that he needs to "make things happen" through backdoor deals—essentially to become part of the same corrupt system he has spent his career fighting against.
