Hi Nanna (2023)

"Hi Nanna" is a heartwarming family drama that beautifully explores themes of love, loss, and reconciliation. The story follows the journey of Nanna, a young boy caught in the emotional turmoil of his parents' separation, and the profound impact it has on his life as he attempts to reunite his fractured family.

The film opens with Nanna, a cheerful 8-year-old boy, who is living with his mother, Priya, after his father, Arjun, moved out due to the growing tension in their marriage. Priya, an emotionally exhausted single mother, struggles to balance her work and parenting responsibilities, while Arjun, a successful but emotionally distant man, tries to stay involved in Nanna's life despite his separation from Priya.

Nanna, who is deeply attached to both his parents, finds it difficult to understand why they are no longer together. He often daydreams about reuniting them, and in his innocent yet determined way, he devises a series of plans to bring them back together. His actions range from setting up surprise meetings to writing heartfelt letters, all in the hope that his parents will see the love and happiness they once shared.

As the story unfolds, Nanna’s efforts lead to a series of bittersweet moments, where his parents are forced to confront their own unresolved feelings. Priya, who feels betrayed and hurt by Arjun's emotional abandonment, struggles with the possibility of forgiving him. Arjun, on the other hand, begins to recognize the emotional cost of his detachment and his failure to communicate with Priya.

The film’s turning point occurs when Nanna, in a moment of innocence and clarity, opens up to both Priya and Arjun about how he feels—the fear of losing both parents and the pain of their separation. This honest conversation sparks an emotional awakening in both parents. Priya begins to see Arjun not as the man who abandoned her, but as the father who is still deeply invested in their son's well-being. Arjun, for the first time in years, realizes the importance of emotional connection and presence in his family.

"Hi Nanna" reaches its emotional climax when Priya and Arjun, now willing to work through their differences, come together for Nanna’s sake, not just as parents, but as individuals who still care for each other. While their journey toward reconciliation is not easy, the love they share for Nanna becomes the catalyst for healing.
